All applicants must complete the following:

  1. An application for admission to Penn State,
  2. An application to participate in CAMP, The deadline for submission is December 31st. Qualified students who complete the application after the deadline will be admitted on a space-available basis.
  3. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
    Deadline for submission is February 15th; students who apply after this date will not be guaranteed financial aid.

Important Definitions:

Seasonal Farm Worker: A person whose primary employment is farm work on a temporary or seasonal basis.

Migrant Farm Worker: A seasonal farm worker whose employment requires travel that keeps the farm worker from returning to a permanent home within the same day.

Farm Work: Agricultural activity related to the production of crops, dairy products, poultry, livestock, tree harvesting, or fish farming.

What requirements must I meet?
To be eligible for CAMP, you must meet one of the following definitions of a migrant or seasonal farmworker, be a dependent of a migrant or seasonal farmworker, or have been eligible for services from a state Migrant Education Program (MEP) or the Workforce Investment Act (WIA).

Migrant farmworker: a seasonal farmworker whose employment requires travel, keeping the farmworker from returning to a permanent home within the same day.

Seasonal farmworker: a person employed in farmwork for at least seventy-five days on a temporary or seasonal (not year-round) basis.

The staff of the CAMP program at Penn State will verify farmwork history and/or participation in the Migrant Education, high school equivalency, or WIA.

Services ( What Does CAMP Provide?)
While enrolled as a full-time student, a CAMP participant receives academic and personal counseling; access to tutoring and the University Learning Centers; a tuition grant to supplement financial aid from state or federal sources; a weekly stipend; reimbursement for round-trip travel to the University twice a year; limited assistance for purchasing books; access to educational and cultural programs; and peer, faculty, and staff support throughout participant’s enrollment at Penn State - and beyond!

Academic Requirements

Who Can Apply to the CAMP Program?

To be eligible for the College Assistance Migrant Program, an applicant must:

  1. Have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  2. Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident of the U.S. (temporary or permanent resident). If a student does not have a “green card”(I-551C card), he/she must have at least a current (i.e., not expired) I-94 (arrival/departure record) stamp or an I-551C (conditional permanent residency card) stamp.
  3. Have not attempted 24 or more credits of college coursework
  4. Meet at least ONE of the following descriptions:
    • Applicant or his/her parent has been a seasonal or migrant farmworker (i.e., identifies farmwork on a temporary or seasonal basis as primary employment) in the areas of agriculture, dairy or poultry farms, livestock, fish farms, or forestry for at least 75 days, in the past 24 months.
    • Applicant has participated in a Chapter I Migrant Education Program in the last 2 years.
    • Applicant has participated or is eligible to participate in an Employment and Training Administration Program (20 CFR part 633).

Student Responsibilities

CAMP participants must:

  • complete applications for admission and federal student aid on or before deadlines;
  • comply with CAMP and University rules and regulations;
  • fulfill class requirements;
  • participate in CAMP activities and programs; and
  • meet with academic and CAMP counselors.
