Photography Resources at Penn State

Centralized Photo Repository:

  • Access to Penn State University's photographic collection is available through the WebDam gallery managed by University Marketing allowing search and download of University images. Contact the Multimedia Specialist for more information on accessing this image library.

Photo Permissions and Releases:
Penn State University Marketing is currently developing a University-wide photo release policy. (It isn't finished yet, but here are a few guidelines.)

  • For photo/video intended for marketing materials of any kind.
  • For everyone who is identifiable or the main focus in your photo/video. This includes staff, faculty, students and the public.
  • If the main people in your photo/video are amongst a large crowd and are clearly the main focus of the image, get photo/video releases for each main person.
  • Filled out by a parent if the photo subject is under the age of 18.
  • For photo/video taken in any space, public or private.
  • When photographing/filming large public events like commencement, THON, 5Ks, large sporting events, banquets, etc., you do not need to get individual photo releases, however, you must post signs on all entryways to the venue stating: "By entering this venue, you are consenting to be photographed or filmed for use in Penn State marketing materials." Ensure the print is large and leg
  • Keep and file all photo releases.

Please use the attached photo/video release as it has been approved by Penn State Risk Management.

Commissioning Photographers:

  • Photographic resources are available through the Office of Strategic Communications, University Marketing by Michelle Bixby, Photographer/Photojournalism Instructor
  • Conditions of services require finding a dual purpose for the photos. Meaning, the photos will be useful to University Marketing's marketing materials and if Michelle's schedule permits.
