Pidgin: a universal chat client

Information on the Pidgin universal chat client installed on all Educational Equity computers

Introduction

Pidgin is a free, universal chat client that is automatically installed on all Educational Equity computers. It allows you to have a text conversation in real-time over the Internet with one or more people located anywhere in the world; commonly called "instant messaging".

Pidgin allows you to communicate with others via a wide variety of instant messaging systems including such the popular ones as:

  • AOL Instant Messenger (AIM)
  • Google Talk (now called Hangouts)
  • MSN
  • Yahoo

Pidgin also allows you to communicate securely to any Penn State employee with an Access Account via the Penn State chat server. Learn how to setup Pidgin with your Penn State Access Account.

You can also communicate with multiple Penn State employees by creating a Conference Room via the Penn State chat server.
