Sarea Recalde Phillips

B.S., Biomedical Engineering; Linguistics Minor

Sarea Recalde Phillips is a Ronald E. McNair Scholar and a Millennium Scholar. She has participated in research at Penn State during the academic year and at Georgia Tech and the University of Wisconsin-Madison during the summers and has presented her research at eight regional and national conferences, achieving first place awards. Sarea has been a member of the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics in Science, the National Society of Black Engineers, and the Biomedical Engineering Society. She has also been a consistent collaborator at the MRC as a student receptionist and as a member of several MRC identity and leadership groups such as the MRC Student Leadership Council, Blends of Traditional Heritages, and the Collegiate Leadership Development Program for Latinx Students. Sarea has a passion and love for research; therefore, she plans to pursue a doctorate in Biomedical Engineering after graduation. Following graduate school, Sarea intends to pursue a career in industry and give back to her community by participating in programs that engage young kids in STEM initiatives.
