The Maguire Scholars Program at Penn State

The Maguire Scholars Program at Penn State select students coming out of a Maguire Foundation approved high school. The Maguire Foundation provides last dollar scholarship support to up to five students in their incoming freshman class for four years of matriculation. Scholars must remain in good academic standing and be an active participant in school and the community.


  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by Penn State's Financial Aid Office; Must be PELL eligible
  • Graduate from a Maguire Foundation approved high school
  • Qualify for admission to Penn State
  • Have at least a 3.0 grade-point average or equivalent in high school
  • Be engaged in community service and/or extracurricular activities
  • Contribute at least $5,000 per year to tuition, room, and board
  • Participate in regular "intrusive counseling" in accordance with University requirements
  • Participate in an annual Maguire Scholars Leadership Through Service Program event
  • Complete a Maguire Scholars Program Application
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from supervisor of a volunteer, community service or extracurricular activity

Your application needs to include a letter of recommendation from a high school teacher, counselor, or community leader who can accurately assess your potential to maximize this scholarship opportunity.

Letters should include the following information:
