Lee Juarez, M.Ed.

Graduate Assistant Counselor

Lee Juarez, was born and raised in Stockton, California, and grew up in the Central Valley with her mom, dad, and two sisters. During her time in California, she attended the San Joaquin Delta Community College and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree in Psychology and Certificate in American Sign Language. She continued her studies in California and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Cognitive Science with a minor in Psychology from the University of California, Merced, in 2015.

During her time in Merced, she worked as a student mentor at UC Merced’s Calvin E. Bright Success Center supporting first-generation, transfer, and returning students where she found a passion in higher education and student affairs. With the guidance of her mentors, she decided to move and attend graduate school at Penn State.

In 2017, Lee graduated with a dual Master’s degree in Higher Education and Comparative International Education and decided to continue her academic journey and pursue her Ph.D. in Higher Education.

While at Penn State, Lee has worked in the Adult Learner Programs and Services, the Morgan Academic Center, and the Academic Development Services at Penn State World Campus. From these experiences, Lee has worked with a multitude of student populations, such as adult learners, first-generation, student-athletes, veterans, and online students.

Lee’s passion to support students and their college experience derives from her personal journey as a first-generation student who sought support from her family and mentors along the way. From her experience, Lee is aware of the challenges that students of diverse populations may face while attending college and carrying familial and life responsibilities. Lee is currently in her third year of the Ph.D. program in Higher Education and is excited to continue supporting students as a graduate assistant at the Multicultural Resource Center.

Lee believes in the beauty of mentorship and strives to be a mentor to students throughout their academic journey. As one of her mentors taught her, “It takes a village to raise a child.” – African Proverb
