Michael Wood began his career as a technology education instructor and athletic director and career coach for wrestling, football, and track and field. Mike is a 20 year educator who has worked within secondary and post-secondary institutions. A proud graduate of Norfolk State University with a B.S. degree in Technology Education and The University of Phoenix with a M.S. in Administration and Supervision, Mike is currently working on his PhD in Workforce Education and Development (Post-Secondary Leadership). Mike’s research focuses upon anti-deficit thinking model in education, critical race theory, micro-aggression and preparing students for work place development in the 21st century as it relates to students of color.
A New Jersey native, Mike has traveled extensively throughout Europe and lived in Great Britain for over 5 years. He enjoys working with students and developing opportunities for their success.
Mike also facilitates the Black Male Empowerment Group (BMEG). The purpose of this group is to give African American males with a shared experience on a majority white campus an opportunity to embrace their Penn State experience, establish community based strategies, build relationships and take advantage of all academic and social opportunities within the University..
