Multicultural Resource Center Staff - Nakita Dolet, M.S.

Counselor / Diversity Advocate for Students

Nakita Dolet began her career in student affairs as an Outreach Assistant at the University of Maryland Educational Opportunity Center (UM-EOC) TRIO program. The UM-EOC mission focused on providing support to adults and high school seniors interested in pursuing post-secondary education enrollment by helping them obtain financial aid and navigate through the admissions process. While at the University of Maryland-College Park, she also held a position in the Office of Undergraduate Studies where she supported prospective transfer students, pre-law students, and students re-enrolling to the university after an extended absence. In addition to her professional experience in higher education, Nakita has earned a B.A. in English Language & Literature from the University of Maryland-College Park and a M.S. in Professional Writing from Towson University.

Nakita is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Adult Education with a focus in Online & Distance Education from Penn State University. Her research interests include understanding how an adult learner’s ability to access and utilize information during the admissions/financial aid process is impacted by personal experience and various forms of capital (cultural, economic, and social). Nakita has also held several positions here at Penn State. They include serving as a graduate assistant in the Adult Education Program as well as the Student Affairs unit at Penn State’s World Campus. She has also worked as an Assistant Mentor Coordinator for the Learning Edge Academic Program (LEAP) and an instructor for Upward Bound.

Nakita is strongly influenced by growing up in a multi-generational household with her grandmother, parents and younger brother. Her grandmother and parents are originally from the Caribbean island of Haiti and infused the culture in her everyday life through food, music and language.

Nakita enjoys working with students. She has always been a goal-oriented problem solver and works to share related skills with students.
