Maguire Scholars Program

James J. Maguire, Sr.The Maguire Scholars program provides unique educational opportunities and support to students selected into the program. Maguire Scholars are enrolled in various Colleges across University Park and engage in a service learning project each academic year.

Maguire Scholars are part of the Penn State LionScholars community, a group of students who bring diverse perspectives, identities, and interests to Penn State. Maguire Scholars join a cohort of their classmates in a living-learning program in their first year, and receive support from the Office of Scholars Programs. Maguire and the LionScholars program reflect Penn State’s commitment to academic excellence and human advancement by valuing the learning and growth that comes from engaging with a diverse and inclusive community.

The Maguire Scholars Program seeks to provide a continuum of scholarship from grade school through college for “students in need” who are in with Independent Mission Schools, Faith in the Future and other high schools and with universities. The mission of the program is to prepare students, through education, to make a positive contribution to society. High academic achievement and continuous leadership through service of the community is the program’s foundation for building a system of success.
