Thomas Smialek, Ph.D.,

Thomas Smialek, Ph.D.

Thomas Smialek is Professor of Music & Integrative Arts at The Pennsylvania State University, Hazleton. He teaches courses for non-musicians in the University's General Education curriculum, including Introduction to Western Music, Evolution of Jazz, and interdisciplinary arts courses.

He has served on promotion and tenure committees at the campus and division level; from 1997-1999 he was Arts Division Head for the former Commonwealth College. Dr. Smialek holds degrees from The University of Georgia, Northwestern University and Westfield State College.

His research interests include American concert saxophone performance in the early twentieth century and the development of educational music software.
