Hattie Larlham Art Exhibit

The Hattie Larlham Creative Arts Program gives artists with profound disabilities a hand and a voice, letting them create without the focus of their limitations. We see the people we work with as artists, refusing to define them by their disabilities, but rather, letting them define themselves by what they can achieve. We believe in the premise of expose and explore, so all those we serve have an opportunity to bring out their inner artist. We are currently focusing on the disciplines of painting, pottery, and digital photography.

As the program expands, we look forward to exploring the mediums of sculpting, tapestry, music, and videography, utilizing our current techniques to create art in different areas.

Much of the work from our artists is available for sale. All proceeds for the sale of work go directly to the individual artist. Hattie Larlham does not receive any compensation for its role. Upcoming Creative Arts shows are listed on the Hattie Larlham website.

Hattie Larlham Creative Arts uses Trackers, themselves professional artists, to work with the program participants to facilitate the creative process. Through a dialogue of yes or no questions, the Trackers uncover each artist’s creative choices, paying particular attention to all of the artists’ movements and vocalizations to ensure they are correctly interpreting the artists’ intentions. During these one-on-one sessions, the Trackers work very hard to remain neutral and honor the wishes of the artist.
