What it is:
CAPS Chat is available in the Student Disability Resources office every Monday afternoon for students to have an informal, drop-in consultation with a counselor from Penn State Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS). Meetings are free and same day scheduling is available online for in-person meetings.

When attending a CAPS Chat appointment, students can share their needs and concerns that may include:

  • Stress or anxiety
  • Adjusting to college life
  • Family problems
  • Relationship issues
  • Roommate difficulties
  • Academic pressures

How to schedule a same-day CAPS Chat appointment:
All CAPS Chat appointments are scheduled same-day using the form in the instructions provided on the Student Affairs Counseling and Psychological website. Students can also schedule same-day using the QR code present at the SDR office.

Available appointments will be listed on Monday morning for students to schedule a 30-minute CAPS Chat session between 1:30-3:30 pm that afternoon.

If openings are unavailable, students will be presented with a message indicating that no appointments are available and inviting them to visit the CAPS website or contact the CAPS main line for assistance (814-863-0395).

Reminder:
CAPS Chat is not formal counseling or for longstanding concerns. Instead, it’s meant for:

  • Discussing specific concerns in a one-on-one environment
  • Learning more about what counseling might be like
  • Understanding how to help a friend
