Mentoring Student Veterans Workshop (Virtual)
- September 30, 2026
- 1:00 p.m.
- Zoom (Link to made available closer to event.)
Overview
Learn how to be a more inclusive, informed, and supportive mentor to student veterans. Developed in partnership with the Office of Veterans Programs (OVP) and Veterans Affairs and Services (VA&S), this interactive session uses scenario-based learning to help participants strengthen their mentorship practices. Let's build a better mentoring culture together.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Describe student veterans as a diverse population, beyond a single story
- Explain how the campus transition shapes experiences
- Practice communication strategies that support student-driven goals
- Analyze real-world scenarios
- Identify when and how to connect students to campus resources
Open to all Penn State faculty and staff, though completing the Mentoring Foundations Workshop first is recommended. This session also counts as Milestone 2 for anyone pursuing the Building Inclusive Campus Environments: Mentoring Student Veterans Provost Endorsement.
