Demystifying Penn State Research Centers and Institutes

Advancing your research portfolio is a key faculty objective.  This session will focus on helping you build and move your research portfolio forward by introducing Penn State faculty across all campuses to the plethora of opportunities, resources, and research that are happening at the Institute for Computational and Data Sciences, an interdisciplinary research institute under the Office of the Vice President for Research. ICDS seeks to advance Penn State science, engineering, and humanities through computational and quantum theory, high-performance computing, Artificial Intelligence and data science, driving technological breakthroughs that redefine what is possible.

Dr. Guido Cervonne, Director and Professor of Geography and Meteorology & Atmospheric Science, will first share an overview of the opportunities and research connected with the institute.  Then, he will describe opportunities for collaboration.  Last, he will preview where he sees Institute research and collaboration opportunities moving in the future.  This session will close with an opportunity for discussion with and to ask questions of Dr. Cervone and Dr. Chilenski. This session will encourage faculty to consider how they can get involved with the Institute and how the Institute may support their research. Faculty will be encouraged to follow up with one-on-one mentoring sessions with Dr. Chilenski to strategize next steps to engage with relevant faculty and projects.
