2016 Achieving Women Award Information

The Commission for Women's Achieving Women Award recognizes Penn State women who have shown notable leadership and accomplishment in their fields, and have gone beyond the requirements of employment duties and responsibilities in their support of the University's diversity efforts, promotion of equal opportunity, or contribution to human causes and public service activities. Eligible women are current employees and students of Penn State in the following categories: faculty, staff exempt, staff nonexempt, administrator, technical service, undergraduate student, and graduate student (including postdoctoral fellows and scholars). One award is typically given in each of the seven categories.

This award is limited to one per person, per lifetime, per category. If your nominee has received this award in the past, she may only be considered for a second award if her category within the University has changed. View lists of past awardees.

All nominations and supporting documents must be submitted online with the nomination form no later than Wednesday, February 10, 2016.

No late materials will be considered.

Earlier submissions are appreciated.

Please include a narrative of endorsement supporting your nomination of this individual for the Achieving Women Award. Describe, using specific examples when possible, why you believe the nominee has demonstrated accomplishments in the areas of (1) professional and/or educational achievement, and (2) extraordinary commitment to diversity, promoting equal opportunity, or contributions to human causes and public service activities. Consider emphasizing the following areas, if/when applicable: professional and/or educational achievements, leadership, demonstrated commitment to customer service or process improvement, demonstrated managerial/supervisory excellence, initiative, team spirit, commitment to mentoring, service on University-wide or departmental committees, active participation in University-sponsored events, volunteer service in support of special causes, and demonstrated support for Penn State’s diversity and inclusion. Narrative should not exceed two pages, double-spaced.

In addition, you are strongly encouraged to include statement(s) of support from peers, subordinates, supervisors, instructors, advisers, or key customers. Supporting documentation is limited in length on the online nomination form. Contact information for supporting documentation submissions are required and may be verified. Please do not send books, brochures, curricula vitae, résumés, or other lengthy documents.

Note: Employees must be in good standing to be considered for commission awards. For University activities such as commissions and award programs, a faculty or staff member is considered to be in ‘good standing’ if the individual is meeting the expectations of his/her position and has not been the recipient of recent discipline. The individual should also exhibit qualities such as civility, collegiality, and a commitment to the overall success of his/her department.

Applications will be reviewed by the Commission for Women. Thank you.
