Associate Vice President and Associate Dean,
Undergraduate Education

A key event that triggered her professional trajectory

When I was in the first semester of my master's degree program, I had two professors say to me on separate occasions that I should pursue a doctorate. That changed everything for me.

What challenges she overcame

I am a first generation college student. I faced challenges that ranged from "How am I going to pay for this?" to "Am I smart enough to be here? Do I really belong?" I am glad I experienced these challenges because it helps me to better understand some of the issues students face. It gives me perspective on my work and a sense of gratitude and humility.

"I don't know that I ever really thought a lot about advancing my career; instead, I thought, "What can I do next? What else can I learn? How might I contribute to the University and the community in new or better ways?"
