Dr. Katie Kostohryz is an Associate Teaching Professor in Counselor Education and Rehabilitation within Human Services in the College of Education at Penn State, Faculty Lead for Mentorship & Professional Development within the Office of Educational Equity, and a Licensed Professional Counselor. She earned her B.A. in Education and Psychology from Monmouth University, where she was also a student-athlete. She completed her M.A. in Community Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy at the University of Northern Colorado, followed by a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Ohio University.
Dr. Kostohryz previously served as the Coordinator of the Herr Clinic at Penn State, where she expanded services within the community and the State College Area School District. In these roles, she provided clinical and administrative leadership, supervised counselors-in-training, and developed targeted professional development opportunities for clinicians, educators, and school partners. She also developed and sustained an innovative school–university partnership that reduced barriers to care and expanded equitable access to mental health services for students, families, faculty, and staff. She currently teaches and supervises undergraduate and graduate programs, with a focus on children and families in rehabilitation, grief and loss, counselor development, assessment, and wellness.
Dr. Kostohryz maintains active service commitments at the university, local, and national levels, including current service on the board of Centre Helps and advisory roles focused on grief education and community wellness. She is frequently invited to speak for schools, universities, healthcare organizations, and public media, where she facilitates professional learning on mentorship, counselor development, grief-informed practice, and community wellness.
