Curtis "CJ" Johnson, '94 COMM, '94 M.Ed., EDU
- Superintendent, State College Area School District
He led the school through a major building project and the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. His leadership expanded academic opportunities and improved educational equity by developing the Academic Center for Enrichment and Everyday Algebra class. Under his tenure, AP course enrollment grew by 56%, with nearly 80% of students scoring a 3 or higher.
Beyond academics, Johnson championed inclusivity, partnering with the district’s director of equity and inclusivity to elevate student voice through the No Place for Hate campaign and other student-led social justice efforts. He also prioritized implementing restorative practices training for staff.
Curtis holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s in secondary school counseling from Penn State.
