Emanuel
Out of my twelve siblings, I am eleventh and I will be the first to walk onto a college campus and the third to graduate from high school. It is nerve-racking, but also exciting to go to college and be on my own. I am really excited to go to college and do adult things, things I have only ever seen people do in movies, but still have my mother just one call away. Everyone in my family is really excited and my siblings are all planning my graduation party. They have no idea what they are doing, but it is funny and a good time. [Being a first- generation student] I am just winging it. I had Miss Ingrid, who helped me a lot. Everything I got from a college I would just pack it all together, bring it to her office, lay it on her desk, and she would whip out a calculator. Ultimately it was the financials that helped me pick RMU; they were very generous about it.
Emanuel is a 2022 graduate of New Castle Senior High School and Talent Search who graduated in the Top Ten of his class. Very involved in the arts, he was featured as Danny in this year’s production of Grease, a two-year member of the Candy Canes Dance Team, a section leader for marching band, and participated in several choral ensembles. Emanuel was also awarded the Candy Canes scholarship this year. Emanuel currently attends Robert Morris University as a first-generation college student and marketing major. He credits his Talent Search counselor, Miss Ingrid, for helping him navigate all the paperwork, financial information, and vocabulary involved in the college application process.
