About
The Commonwealth Scholars Program (CSP) is a transformative opportunity designed to support your academic, personal, and professional journey at Penn State, University Park. Formerly known as the Comprehensive Studies Program, CSP builds on a strong legacy of student success, offering an enriched experience tailored for high-achieving, Pell-eligible Pennsylvania residents.
This invitation-only program is extended to select students based on eligibility criteria determined by undergraduate admissions. If you are chosen as a candidate, you will receive an official email from the Office of Scholars Programs (OSP) with an exclusive invitation to apply, along with a two-week deadline to submit your application.
What CSP Offers
As a Commonwealth Scholar, you will gain access to an unparalleled support system designed to help you thrive in college and beyond. Through this program, you will benefit from:
- A Dedicated Academic Advisor – Receive personalized guidance to navigate your academic journey with confidence.
- Specialized Seminar– Engage in interactive academic sessions facilitated by OSP staff that foster critical thinking and leadership skills.
- Exclusive General Education Courses – Enroll in courses that align with your academic and career aspirations.
A Community Designed for Your Success
CSP offers a curriculum-based Living and Learning Community, where you will build meaningful connections with fellow scholars, develop leadership skills, and immerse yourself in a supportive environment.
As a Commonwealth Scholar, you will also be expected to:
- Reside in the Living and Learning Community to engage fully in the CSP experience.
- Adhere to a Scholar Agreement and meet the criteria to qualify for the Bunton-Waller Scholarship.
- Participate in monthly programming & meetings that provide mentorship, networking, and professional development opportunities.
Important Information
- Acceptance to Penn State, University Park is contingent on successful admission into the Commonwealth Scholars Program.
- A completed FAFSA must be on file with Penn State to determine eligibility.
