Coursework Accommodations
Accommodations
Student Disability Resources (SDR) provides accommodations for all aspects of graduate-level coursework, including lectures, assignments, and exams. These accommodations are determined through an individualized, interactive process between the student and their assigned disability specialist and are implemented in collaboration with faculty and academic departments.
Students are responsible for initiating the accommodation process and for sharing their accommodation letters with faculty in courses where they wish to use approved accommodations. While students are encouraged to do this at the beginning of the semester, they may register with SDR and request accommodations at any point during their academic program.
Important Note: Accommodations are not retroactive. Faculty are expected to implement accommodations from the date they receive the accommodation letter. For example, students cannot request to retake exams or redo assignments from before the letter was shared.
Examples include:
- Extended time on exams
- Note-taking assistance (e.g., Jamworks, Genio)
- Assistive technology (e.g., speech-to-text software)
- Captioning
- Classroom accessibility
- Flexibility accommodations (e.g., assignment due dates, absences, rescheduling exams)
